The Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center will be a hub of activity in the coming weeks as community members work to secure passage of a new, nondiscrimination ordinance by the Memphis City Council. orientation and gender identity. A few months later, Metro Nashville followed suit. Now the Memphis City Council is being asked to do the same.
On July 20, the council will take up an ordinance to amend Chapter 9 of the City of Memphis Code of Ordinances to include nondiscrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. A resolution to support the inclusion of a non-discrimination provision in all city contracts also is on the agenda.
